Fighting for Liberty

Why we fight for Levy

My nanay (mother), Liberty Antona-Eustaquio, is born and raised in Tayabas, Quezon, and eventually settled here in Taytay, Rizal after marrying our Tatay, Jessie Eustaquio. The two of them worked hard to raise me, my sister Joan, and our youngest Jamie, who is diagnosed with autism.

Nanay has not only been a nanay to the three of us, but also to all our cousins, and even to most of our friends. Everyone can’t help but call her nanay because of her motherly instincts, and tender, loving care, not just for us, her children, but for everyone she meets.

It was July last year when nanay started feeling back pains. She disregarded it thinking it’s just part of ageing. Come October, she started feeling weak, and we have noticed that she is getting thinner. She thought that it was just a side effect of her thyroid problems.

In November, nanay got a fracture after lifting an entire pack of ready-to-wear clothes she’s selling in Taytay tiangge. It affected her spine and she had to wear braces. December came and the pain from the fracture did not go away. We were already wondering why the fracture does not seem to heal.

It reached a point that nanay would cry like a child at night because of too much pain. That made us decide to bring her back to the hospital. The doctors noticed low levels of hemoglobin in one of the tests and has advised us to undergo an MRI scan. After seeing the results, the doctor then told us to consult an oncologist.

Nanay underwent Serum Protein Electrophoresis (SPEP) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) to confirm something that we feel we already know, but we never wanted to face. We got the results in January of this year and the tests revealed nanay has a Bone Marrow Cancer (multiple myeloma) and is already at stage 3.

Cancer started when she had back pains and the moment she abruptly started losing weight. It progressed to stage 2 which aggravated her back fracture which would not anymore heal. From that moment on, we knew we have to fight and be stronger than ever—and that this fight is not just nanay’s but ours, too.

Join us in Fighting for Liberty

Nanay would need to undergo regular chemotherapy sessions which would cost Php175,000 every month, excluding her regular medications and hemodialysis sessions. This is something that we cannot shoulder all by ourselves, and we ask for everyone’s help to join us in this fight.

We are trying to raise Php2,000,000.00 within the year to cover for some of her expenses. We want nanay to be able to witness some of the most important milestones in our lives, as ate Joan and I have been engaged this year and last year, respectively. We want Jaime to continuously be nourished by nanay’s love and care.

We will be organizing a couple of fundraising drives so we can make both ends meet. We’re using this platform (Go Get Funding) so we could reach more people. We have always believed in the kindness of people, and how kindness ripples kindness.
