Francois van Staden is a hardworking, funloving young man from KZN.

He is also my baby brother.

He is 24 years old with a life time of memories to be made. He has been ill with the stomach bug doing the rounds, or so everyone thought.

He was diagnosed with a severe Malaria infection on Sunday 17 December after being ill for nearly two weeks. He does not have medical aid.

He needs serious medical attention as he currently has NO liver or kidney function. He has been on malaria treatment for two days at a state hospital with no improvement.

He was transferred to The Bay Hospital in Richardsbay today 19 December with assistance from Pongola community members.

However, there is an admission fee payable of R88,413.30 which covers 5 days of hospital stay only. This excludes treatment of any nature or any further stay.

We have managed to pay the first half which is due today. Any testing, treatments etc are extra.

Please take a minute to consider any donation of any value. He has a long road ahead of him which may include liver, kidney treatment, dialysis and so forth.

Any funds surplus to his needs will be donated to research of malaria treatment in SA.
