Fertility Goddess at MOMMuseum Mosaic Wall

Dec 3-31, with possible continuation through January until the project's completion I will do an artists residency at MOMMuseum (Museum of Motherhood--see http://mommuseum.org/ ), beginning by putting a neolithic/paleolithic fertility goddess on a 5'x5' wall on the Art Annex in St. Petersburg FL.

A museum dedicated to the study of motherhood deserves a message from the past via an image of a goddess, a fat fecundity image seated on a throne flanked by lions from Catal Huyuk now in Turkey, conjuring up shrines where goddesses were revered for giving birth.

Bringing alive such an image from the past is in tune with women reclaiming the power of motherhood today.

A similar project I carried out in Mexico for eight years on Isla Mujeres, Femenina Sube, had an impact on the community as a means for building awareness of the pervasiveness of Fertility Goddesses transhistorically and cross culturally, as women discovered goddesses within their own cultures and within themselves. .

Doing this project requires me to drive to Florida from Cleveland Heights OH, pay for gas, tolls, lodging and food along the way, and pay $125 a week to stay in a camper on the grounds of the museum past any extension of the residency which is free only for a two week stay. Funds would be appreciated to finance the travel round trip, to pay for the commission of the work which the museum is not able to pay, to pay for the production of a brochure and a plaque explaining the goddess, to instruct in mosaicing, and to give a lecture and workshops on Studying the Divine Feminine to the community.
