Campaign Story
We offer volunteer experiences that make a realconnection and difference.
As a volunteer you will have the opportunity to work closely and personally with impoverished children who need lots of care, love and support.
We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds; individuals, families or groups. No formal qualifications are necessary. If you are enthusiastic, have a flexible attitude and are humanitarian by nature, we would love to have you volunteer with us.
An estimated 2,000,000 children commence Primary School yearly in Cambodia; only 25% of these students reach Grade 9, and less than 7% complete Grade 12.
Thirty years ago, Cambodia emerged from a brutal regime that resulted in complete destruction of schools. Since then, rebuilding the country's educational system has been a top priority, and considerable improvements have been made.
However, despite these efforts, Cambodia's education sector remains blemished by limited access to quality instruction, inadequate school facilities and high dropout rates. Access to and completion of primary school, in particular, remain a pressing dilemma, as poverty and opportunity costs channel many children away from school, with many children as young as 10 years old entering the labour market.
Feeding Dreams Cambodia was established to increase access to and quality of basic education to underserved groups, including the poorest of the poor, disabled children, minority groups and particularly vulnerable girls.
A recent report estimates that 30% of sex workers in Cambodia are under 18 years of age. These girls and women are easy targets for traffickers, unaware of the dangers that lurk behind promises of good employment. They are a living testimony to the link between lack of education and vulnerability.
