Fast for Bali
I moved to Bali last month because I wanted to help out with volunteering, community work and teaching, but not just that, I wanted a break from the monotony of life in Ireland. I wanted to utilise my time more effectively, and to do something positive.
I soon realised that there was a bigger issue across the water, and that my lockdown experience was nothing in comparison to what is happening here.
80% of Bali's economy relies on tourism, and only last week we entered another lockdown, with the threat of this one being the breaking point for Bali. People are struggling to earn enough money to feed their family. Children as young as 3 or 4 standing in the middle of traffic trying to sell what they have for money. Families with local businesses and shops have had their source of income shut off yet again, with the threat of restrictions extending for another 6 weeks.
So I want to try and help. I have decided to carry out a 3 day fast with the exception of water (clean and filtered and just another luxury that is taken for granted back home), in order to raise awareness for the situation here. I plan to carry out my fast period from Sunday 1st August - Wednesday 4th August, from 9am to 9am (72 hours).
I have set up this page to ask you to help me. Please donate if you are able to do so, as any amount, big or small, will be appreciated immensely.
It's hard to put into words what I witness here, and it has been the biggest wake up call.
Thank you in advance and please feel free to share this link, spread the word, and hopefully together we can raise some money between us that will go towards @Rescue2000. I have tagged their Instagram here, so have a look at their amazing work in supporting struggling families.
Wish me luck and let's hope my hanger levels don't scare off my house mates.
