Campaign Story
I am embarking on a medical volunteering trip in Tanzania with Gap Medics. During my two week stay in East Africa I will spend time shadowing and working with doctors in a regional hospital in the Kilimanjaro Region and the remote Mafia Island. This experience will allow me to gain a deeper insight into my chosen career whilst helping people and will help me understand the differences in healthcare provisions around the globe.
Along side volunteering in the hospital I will also have the opportunity to spend some evenings volunteering at the local orphanage and giving something back to the local community. In my free time, I intend to immerse myself in the local culture, and learn about life in this part of the world. Medicine and helping people are things that I am extremely passionate about and I am very excited to dedicate my life to this.
The Gap Medics programme is £1100 which ensures my place at the hospital, my accommodation and food for two weeks plus an extra £290 registration fee. On top of this I will have to pay or my flights to and from Tanzania which total to an average of £1000. Anything over my target that is fundraised will go towards the local orphanages out in Tanzania.
