Campaign Story
At a ripe old age of 19, going on 20, the wonderful CHATEAU DU LYS will be leaving Singapore for his retirement in Europe.
Chateau is an ideal cross of French thoroughbred with a pony mare. He was a perfect competitor pony for a young rider -- small, strong and fast, totally honest and full of grit. He carried at least five generations of youngsters through their first courses and on to successful jumping careers.
Chateau has a special enthusiasm and joy. I can’t remember him ever being slow out of the stall. With an affectionate and warm nuzzle, he was and still is, a very fine friend and partner.
His father, the famous Selle Francais stallion CHAMPION DU LYS carried Ludger Beerbaum to sixty Grand Prix and Nation Cup victories, with a signature double in the Hamburg Derby, and the overall Riders’ Tour Championship. Champion du Lys was known for his strength, fighting spirit, and a love for competition. In these ways, Chateau resembles his father, who is still healthy and happy in retirement, aged 29.
We hope Chateau can have a long retirement, like his famous sire, under the kind eye of family and friends.
If you would like to visit Chateau in his new home, or contribute to his retirement, please do contact Rolando (“Ron”) Gonzales.
