One of my English students and her children aged from 5 to 16 are being threatened with homelessness by Lambeth Council. She is a refugee from Somalia, and has been living in her council flat for 13 years. Due to changes in her housing benefit she is now 3 weeks behind in her rent. She has an appointment with the council in 3 weeks time, by which time she will be 6 weeks in arrears. If she becomes homeless she will be seen as having made herself intentionally homeless. She is desperately looking for work, so far unsuccessfully. Can you please donate any amount to allow her to pay her rent at least until her meeting with the council in 3 weeks time. Her children are all at school, working hard, and for their sake as well as her own, she needs to hang onto her home.

Change in campaign situation

Update posted by Frances Plowden at 11:40 am

Thank you for those who have so generously donated. I am stopping this campaign now, due a change in the situation. After an emergency meeting with Lambeth yesterday it has been agreed to continue paying housing benefit until January, when this case will be reviewed. For now they are safe
