Family Support for Preemies

Hi, I am Navik Desai and I am in the 5th grade. For my school project, I want to raise money for a good cause to make a positive difference in the world, and I need your help. I want to raise funds for families of premature babies who are in an incubator right now.

Some of these parents have to spend their whole day for months to look after their baby in the hospital and don't have time to cook or do the groceries. Some parents live a long distance away from their hospital so it's hard for them to travel back and forth every day, and they have even less time to look after themselves. But healthy moms are important for premie babies because these babies must be fed breast milk since their systems are not developed enough to handle formula. If a mom does not have enough time or money for nutritious food, then the baby will also suffer as he or she won't have any good breast milk.

My plan is to raise money and with that money buy gift cards from restaurants and supermarkets for the parents at Royal Columbian Hospital's NICU. Royal Columbian Hospital is a hospital in New Westminster, BC, Canada that is run by Fraser Health, and is only 1 of 2 hospitals in the Vancouver area that has a tier 3 NICU, which cares for babies born under 32 weeks. Royal Columbian has the best patient outcomes of NICU in all of Canada.
