Don’t Want To Be Homeless

Update posted by Nikki Atkinson On Oct 05, 2018

Never mind on that house. They wanted first and last months rent ($2900), pet deposit ($500), and a security deposit of one months rent ($1450). See what I was talking about? $4850.00 upfront just to rent a house. Had to pay $90 (non-refundable!) just to apply. That’s coming out of grocery money. Now my teenaged son is in a panic. lol

Every little bit helps. Prayers and good thoughts appreciated! Thank you so much for being here.

After a time of not getting responses to inquiries from agents representing or managing lease homes, I finally got a response today. The house is in a great location, decent rent, great neighborhood, an ok commute, looks to be properly managed... But - and this is what a lot of people who haven't had to move in awhile don't realize - it's going to cost a solid $5000 just to secure a house. With all the deposits required - first/last month's rent, security deposit, pet deposit, application fee - the application fees alone are $45 per adult (sometimes per person) that will be living in the home or more. And heaven help you if your credit isn't up to snuff, the fees will really start adding up provided they don't decline your application. (and most of those fees are non-refundable, by the way)

I'm trying very hard not to despair, but I'll admit it is a struggle. I swear, when I win the lottery, I'm going to start a foundation to help people like us. People who got kicked to the curb by life and just need a helping hand.
