On the 1st January 2019 at 1:30 my family and I was involved in a horrific Motor vehicle accident. Leaving us Physically impaired, un able to make a living we are now Financial and Physically impaired. Incidents such as this can change ones entire life. The ripple effects touch on everything and can change your life in ways you can never imagine.

There's a reason for everything, people tell us. Accidents like this shouldn't happen, period, 25 days in a hospital bed, I only remember flashes of the first nineteen days only fully realising the reality after the 19th of January.

My first days (I am not sure how long) I was in a Neurological Ward due to the bleed on my brain. I remember nothing but the walls of the room, it had the most beautiful wall paper I believe it is the wallpaper that brought me back. It was photos I took of my wife and children. It changed everyday and brought me back I believe that my imaginary wall paper that many would see as I psychotic break down, saved me. What was important to me saved me.

I hear stories from people around me and my beautiful family that were with me in the car.

All we did was take a drive to pick my little boy up, thank God he wasn't in the car. I can't even begin to imagine trauma he went through when Mummy and Daddy didn't make it to pick him up, the following day not being allowed to see me and seeing his mom and sister in the state they were in. The stories I hear are scary because my loved ones had to go through the mental trauma. I am greatful to be alive the reality is that we all nearly died and have been through hell. I remember nothing of the night. Apparently my daughter tried waking me up in the car struggling to wake me up with blood pouring from my head. As a family we are greatful to be a alive. All I want is for everything to be ok again. I look at pictures of the recage and I thank God for saving us. Thank you to our family that rushed to the scene to take care of us and thank you to all our amazing family and friends for all your love, prayers and support. Thank you to my family for visiting me every day even though you had injuries of your own. Thank you to my inlaws for travelling to see us. My amazing wife you are so strong, taking care of me with your broken leg. Our kids l even with your own injuries you manage to be our eyes and ears getting to everything we can't, thank you.

Incidents like this are so unnecessary when you think about it. Incidents like this can start a domino effect in your life. January was going to be the month of positive change for us. I finally had a job offer guaranteed and interviews lined up for my comedy act, my wife was in the running for new job after her retrenchment. Now we are at this crazy space of needing time to heal. Out of all the pain I feel the heart ache is the worst. While I was in hospital and my family had know idea if I was going to be ok, my wife received notification that our lease was expiring. Realising that the only income we have is from my freelance training, consulting, MC work and Comedian work. She felt that with me in the state I was in we would not have any income for a while. Luckily friends have taken us in.

I realise I couldn't stop a speeding motorists and prevent the accident, but as a father and a husband I feel like I have failed to protect my family. The effects of the accident tear me up more and more every day. Not being able to work and provide is the worst. Please people respect our roads speed limits they are there for a reason, there is no way we would be in the state we are in if rules were obeyed.

It's temporary, but so unnecessary.

The pain, the trauma, the casts, crutches, the stitches, the staples the wheel chair and even the tears. As a family love and faith are still our foundation. From here we will pick up, grow and be strong once more.

The accident has had ripple effect on our life as a family emotionally, physically and financially.

Costs raised are for:

1) Medical attention for the entire family.

2) Transportation

3) Education.

With no way of employment it's difficult to maintain not only medical expenses but also living.

The family is currently split up due to housing issues.

South Africa is failing.

Update posted by Nizaam Holmes at 12:44 pm

Just to much wrong with the world we live in. Woman and children are in the line of fire. It is all triggered by ignoring small issues that lead to bigger issues. Victims do very little to deserve this life changing title. It's not just murder, rape, and abuse. The. . . . .

People are like you need to take it easy, when you have people depending on you taking it easy isn't a option. A while back my physio refused to work on me until I spoke to my doctor. Which I did with a great difficulty and a smile on my. . . . .

  • To everyone reading this, the blatant disregard for road traffic laws wreck lives in ways you cannot begin to understand, until it happens to you. Please think of the mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles who travel those same roads to make a living and try to get by in this world. Your actions ultimately affect everyone else on that road. Cuz, I pray for your speedy recovery and that your family is healed in every way. It's not easy, but we will all help in whatever little way we can, to make a difference. Love you all.
