Family House Fire

In 2012 there were 365,000 house fires that resulted in $5.7 million dollars in damages.  Many think these damages are covered by insurance companies but often the insurance companies only cover the rebuild and many families are left struggling after their entire home contents have been destroyed.  Some items certainly can never be replaced but some items can.  Many don’t realize how much it adds up been when you start from the small items such as a washcloth to the bigger items like furniture, it all adds up way too quickly.

My family had a similar experience on Christmas Eve.  The fire started around the Christmas tree.  We finally were able to move back into our home in July.  However, months later we are still struggling as we try to replace many of the items lost in our home or deal with bills that were pushed back as we tried to deal with the initial fire loss.  This forced us into bankruptcy.  We don’t want another family to have the experience we did.  While we have had individuals reach out and provide support, we still found ourselves really short during a time when the economy is not that great.  We hope that you consider offering your financial and emotional support to this family or other families in need. 

A number of people have posted private messages about the availability of insurance coverage. Although we were economically responsible and did have homeowner's insurance, the available fire insurance coverage barely covered the losses that we sustained on the property or contents.  We hope that you can find it in your hearts and in your family budgets to provide support to our family or others.  Feel free to look at pictures of the fire that destroyed my home and contents.
