Families in need

Collecting items needed for our homeless population. On any giving night there are between 6,000 - 7, 000 homeless persons living in parks, shelters, and other places in Las Vegas.

Homeless need many things we take for granted and organizations don't always have what they need all the time. Blankets, Hygiene Kits, and Female Pads, and Tampons.

I myself have been one of them people who was homeless for 6 years of her life in the past. She understands what the homeless stigma is all about. Many people have their thoughts on what a homeless person is. I was one of them of them people affected by stigma. They are not all drug or alcohol abusers which I thought was the majority of them. In fact I would say most of the homeless have mental health issues that have not been addressed. There are also those that get SSI and SSDI and cannot even afford a place to live. Anyone can become homeless. I have met people who lost their jobs, made a wrong decision and that set them back. Once you are down it is not easy if you don't have a support network in place. Think for a moment. You are single, you lost your car because you could not afford the costs. The job search has been a struggle and not hiring like before and you are finding it hard to get work. Now with no car, you rely on the Transit system but you have no money to get a Bus Pass. You haven't been able to shave or take regular showers. You are stressing also because you don't have clean clothes. Your phone was lost and now you have no way to contact anyone. Your pride keeps you from family or perhaps you have no family or trusted friends that will help you for awhile to get back on your feet. This is just an example of one possible scenario. Each person has a story and some of them the most horrific you have ever heard. Just when you think that you have heard the worst one. Another one is just around the corner.

Thank god that we have a pretty robust social organization's in Las Vegas that do amazing work everyday. Include the many that go to different places and help in their own way. Unfortunately, it is never enough.

Goal: 25-50 Tents for people who cannot get into Shelters because they are full.

Goal: 200 Female Hygiene Kits & 200 Male Hygiene Kts

Goal: 100 Backpacks

Goal: 100 Medium Blankets. It still can get cold at night in Las Vegas.
