WHY GET WET?

Your support of our swimmers directly funds free fitness training programs for special populations. We keep our operational costs lower than most non-profit organizations and need your donations to keep our lights on. Our ongoing program development engages vulnerable children, adults and seniors with wellness education and fitness training. Working with low-income communities and social service agencies, we are proud to live at the non-profit intersection where fitness, wellness and medicine meet.

This year, our 2017 gala honoree, Lesli Moore Dahlke participates in our wet-fest summer splash relay. Lesli is a survivor of a rare soft tissue sarcoma and lives daily with two equally rare cancers: a Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and leukemia. This brave woman volunteered for the 1970 USO Handshaking Christmas Tour in war-torn Vietnam. Listed by the Department of Veteran Affairs, Lesli’s cancers derive from dioxin, a highly toxic chemical contained in Agent Orange and similar herbicides used to defoliate the dense jungles and hillsides of Vietnam. Lesli’s powerful story is one of strength, resilience and overcoming the odds, which for many years were stacked against soldiers and military personnel returning from Vietnam.

According to Lesli’s oncologist at The City of Hope, Lesli’s vitals and overall well-being have improved dramatically since she began training with Fit 4 the Cause in October 2015.

Despite unthinkable barriers and challenges in Lesli’s past, she continues to create a healthy path through consistent training programs. This author (see www.Leslisstory.com) and talented photographer continues to smash obstacles one move at a time.
