EZSnorkel - Snorkeling Equipment for the Disabled and Special needs adventurist!
The Mission of the team is to create and facilitate healthy and accessible environments through empowerment, collaboration and communication. Through the use of the EZ Snorkel© apparatus, we will advocate for true accessibility for all people.
Services are offered to the disabled guests at no cost. The sponsoring organization operates with the assistance of amazing volunteers and completely upon donations from supporters and visitors. Our goal is to raise capital to purchase adaptive equipment that will provide a lifetime beach adventure for people with special needs. We are hoping to expand our services to include additional surf catamarans, an accessible peer, a hoist to lift visors into equipment, adaptive beach wheelchairs, and mobility beach equipment to allow disabled people the opportunity to access the sandy shores of Akumal, Mexico.
EZ Snorkel is a battery-powered, motorized, single-person catamaran for snorkeling specifically designed for non-swimmers or individuals with disabilities. The EZ Snorkel design uses two flotation devices, an adjustable seat, and a viewer engineered for costal reef exploration and entertainment for those who are unable to swim independently. In 2012 the modified units were introduced for use in Akumal Bay, Mexico as an apparatus for people with special needs, non-swimmers, and children. At the end of 2012 and extensive testing, EZ Snorkel was approved by the Centro Ecologico Akumal (CEA) as an environmentally-safe/friendly and appropriate tool for creating a more special needs-accessible Akumal.
