Our son manifested a squint and extremely poor eyesight at the age of three. A long treatment process followed to improve the quality of his eyesight, before he was ready for surgery. Unfortunately, many parents do not have access to the funds for the treatment. They do not have medical aid or, if they do, the medical aid company considers the operation to be cosmetic. It is crucial for the child's eyes to be attended to before age eight, when he or she reaches visual maturity. After the life-changing difference the treatment and surgery have made to our son, we would like other parents to have access to a similar solution. Squint correction surgery not only resolved our son's visual problems, but he is no longer subject to unwelcome scrutiny or teasing, and his self confidence has soared. Our target has been set to enable one child to receive treatment, though we hope that the campaign can be ongoing, to eventually help more children.
