Campaign Story
Janeeva is an old lady who sits outside a Hindu temple in Mumbai every day hoping that passersby will give her a few rupees to feed her and her family. I'm not 100% sure that's how to spell her name since she is illiterate and my attempt to write her name in Devanagari script proved fruitless. I've been walking past her for about a year now and slowly we've come to understand each other. She's learned the words "operation" and "hospital", but she's always pointing to her eyes which look very dull from cataracts and saying "paise, paise", which means money. Through many "conversations" I've gathered that she needs about 50,000 rupees for cataract surgery, which is just a little less than $1,000. I've set a goal of $1,000 as a stretch goal, but hoping I can raise enough for her to have her surgery and have her sight back. I hope that you join me in this goal.
