The Big Issue:

Large cargo ships use a mind-blowing amount of fuel per day to run, measured in tons per day. From the graph below you will see that some may reach 300 tons daily at normal speed. Cruise ships for example may use as much as 250 tons per day. However let's agree on an average, as ships are sometimes stationary. For this example lets agree on sixty tons per day average for one ship. This is just one ship and how many ships are out there, crossing the seas and sailing the oceans?

Now, can you imagine a ship that runs on half that fuel? What about running on 5% of it? Imagine that 60 tons going down to 3 tons? Less pollution, less space occupied by the fuel, more cargo, less number of travels, cheaper cargo prices, happier customers...

Does it sound too good to be true? Do you think it is not possible? Please read further:

What This Means For The World - the solution:

The Water Jet Propulsion System (WJPS) is a campaign run on behalf of Galaxel Energy Ltd, who is the holder of the IP for the WJPS technology. WJPS can save at least 50% of the typical fuel requirement of a marine vessel. The savings are projected to be in the region of at least 50% when run by hydraulic off-the-shelf motor, but up to 95% if run with our Centrifugal Force Machines. This also means less space required for fuel so more space available for cargo, meaning even more benefits from this system.

Existing propeller technology:

A conventional propeller has to turn full cycle with water friction both sides of the blades and turn the water in circle to push backwards. This produces cavitation, which is loss of energy. Turning the water in circle does not create propulsion, only water going backwards in a straight motion produces forward movement. The energy input from the drive is mostly used to fight against the water resistance and spin it around the circle.

How we differ:

Our jet pushes water only backwards. It does not spin the water around and does not use energy to spin it as an added benefit. As a consequence, the WJPS does not create cavitation. Two major hurdles are being overcome with this – cavitation and spinning the water. Our propulsion system uses vibration to move forth and back with immediate reaction to the water. WJPS’s circumference could be 10 m on a transport ship and length of 1 m, which gives a total of 15.56 m2 inside surface area. 2 cm movement forward and backward displaces water pertinent for that surface area at a rate of 360 times per minute, using a standard hydraulic motor driving it, which means 720 pushes of water, as WJPS displaces water on both back and forth movements.

A current propeller of same diameter has to go 1000 cm (full circle) to make one rotation, based on 1000 cm circumference and a maximum of 100 RPM for big propellers.

In furtherance we can increase the frequency of the WJPS, by using our own air compressor or from our machines vibrating. It can work on pure vibrations, which we can create with our energy machine by multiplying the input energy in accordance with the formula:

Fc = mv2/r, where Fc = centrifugal force, m = mass, v = speed, and r = radius.

This means that when the speed is doubled, the force is increased in a geometrical progression, (vibration in our case, which we can use directly and without conversion).

The set up consists of three linearly positioned cones, with only the central one moving (vibrating) in a linear fashion by a linear mover. The primary mover can be an existing off the shelf motor, or by using our Linear Centrifugal Force Machine, which is ultra energy-efficient. The effectiveness comes from the system being able to produce motion in a direction from both back and forth movements brought about by the linear vibration of the central cone. In addition, by strategically placing two jet flows to both sides of the vessel or a line of them in sequence, this will provide a new way of stabilising it and ensure smooth and safe movement. There is no cavitation, no sucking and cutting and, because it is an inline propulsion system, it protects the bio-diversity of the sea floor and allows vessels passage into more shallow harbours. The system also allows for building speeds of up to 1.5 times the speed of conventional ships, whilst saving enormous amounts of fuel.

The cost of installation of the WJPS is projected to be under half, possibly under quarter of the current cost for engine installation on a standard ship. An added benefit is that there would be less maintenance required, compared to the complex engine set up and thus additional cost savings.

More differences: WJPS versus other propeller technologies

Typical fuel consumption for larger vessels with cargo capacity between 20000 and 70000 metric tonnes can be anywhere between 30 and 100 metric tonnes per day. Bigger and faster ships, or old-fashioned steam turbine vessels consume above 100 tons/day.

An average transport ship would consume 60 tons of fuel each day. The ROI of the WJPS can be extremely fast only on the basis of the fuel savings.

For example: The big ships use IFO380 fuel, which at the time of writing this is around $446. If multiplied by 60, that’s $26,760 and at 50% it is $13,380 per day savings, monthly $401,400, yearly $4,883,700, provided with our system they only use half the fuel and that the ship runs 365 days per year. If the savings from cost of the WJPS, installing, operating and maintaining an internal combustion engine are factored in, then the ROI will arrive even faster. Those fuel, built and maintenance savings, coupled with the extra space in the ship to take additional cargo, will give our transportation arm a significant advantage over major competitors, which can lead to growing the business into a main player in that market in a relatively short time.

Shipping industry is one of the biggest pollutants on Earth today. Not only the problem of burning and carrying the fuel define the detrimental effect of the shipping industry, but also the way the ships are made to move in the water. They use big propellers that need tremendous power in order to rotate and cut through the waters and push the vessel forward. The effect is high pressure, cavitation and swirls that can suck various wild life into it and kill it.

The propellers, because of the way the work, rotate the water and cause it to mix with all the dirt and toxic materials that have settled on the bottom. This creates underwater clouds that after settle onto the weeds, which are the basic food for many underwater creatures. Eventually this damages the food chain.

The Galaxel Water Jet Propulsion System is differing significantly in the above mentioned aspects. It lacks all the negativity of the existing propeller systems. It cuts a minimum of 50% of the energy required to move an existing vessel, it creates no cavitation, no sucking and cutting and has high efficiency. It has free inflow in the middle and hence safe for underwater life. And because it creates no rotation it is suitable for even shallow waters with no risk of mixing the dirt from the bottom with the sea flora. Our system is a Linear Jet Propulsion System, which creates jet flow of water by movements both forward and backwards and jet flow of water in the right direction. By strategically placing two jet flows to both sides of the vessel or a line of them in combination, this will provide a new way of stabilizing it and ensure smooth and safe sail. In furtherance when the Water Jet Propulsion System is combined with our Linear Centrifugal Force Machine, the energy consumption of a typical ship could be reduced by up to 95%.

Scale of Device

The propulsion system can be retro fitted to existing boats, or it can be newly designed and fitted to new boats. Due to its efficiency, it can be made to be operated manually, suitable for smaller fishing boats in areas where fuel is scarce, or for bigger vessels the water flow can be managed by increasing the linear vibrations, which would allow to decrease the size of the propulsion system.

In short the WJPS is highly scalable and suitable for applications from the leisure and recreational water industry, to large scale water transportation industry.

In the example below you will note a test installation via retrofitting to a small recreational boat. The unit is being driven by a battery and a small wheelchair motor.

Your gifts are greatly appreciated. They will enable us to go forward with our technology and become closer to the full implementation into an actual economic environment. It would mean that we would finally be able to implement our ideas into reality and start helping the environment in a way that has not been possible before.

Thank you for your gifts!!!

Your kind gifts/donations are to be utilised for the outsourcing of the production of the first prototype of the technology as described below, to include the design, planning, manufacturing and installation.

This is the first phase of development, with subsequent requirement of phase two, to enable the production of the first commercial unit, either retrofitted or designed with a newly built boat or a ship, depending on the funds raised.
