Back in 1987, a student of the University of Illinois named Mike Hayes, managed to pay off his university education through crowd funding.
With the help of over 2.8 Million people, each donating a single penny(cent) - He collected enough money to see him through 4 years of university studies.
Then in 2009, guy named Tip Jones began an initiative called the 'One Dollar College', which sought to eliminate the student debt of the American body - through donations of a dollar from strangers all over the world.
Today in 2020, I'm hoping to achieve a similar feat, relying solely on the kindness of strangers in our society to help see me through my studies.
I'll be starting my university studies in 2021, in the National University of Singapore under the Business faculty.
By requesting a small donation of $1 from the person reading this, I'm hoping to find out just how far our society may go, to help a random stranger in times of need.
Undoubtedly, there is no moral obligation for you to help me out, because there are thousands of others who may require assistance more urgently than I do.
But as far as I can, I'm hoping to test my boundaries and see how far $1 may bring me. Perhaps I'd still have to take on a bank loan. Or perhaps I'd be able to study contentedly in the next few years without any financial worries.
It all depends on you - you control my fate for today, and for the next 5 years.
