Hello! Thanks for checking out my campaign. My name is Khadijah and I'm the owner of Soulstone Spa & Apothecary in NYC. I'm a licensed massage therapist and esthetician and my studio focuses on the person who currently or has undergone cancer treatment.
In 2017, my dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He put up a brave fight and made it to seven months despite the doctors giving him six months to live. Towards the end, he was in so much pain he had trouble sleeping and his prescribed pain medication was not working. Not knowing how else I could help, I gave him a foot and leg massage. By the time I was done he had fallen asleep. He looked so peaceful that I decided to help as many people suffering with cancer as I could.
When someone is diagnosed with cancer, so much of the beginning is a blur. Time is of the essence, and the medical teams coordinate to start treatment as quickly as possible. While the urgency is appreciated, it can leave some patients feeling powerless and unheard. I want to create a space where patients can feel whole, heard, and cared for. I want the spa to be a place of respite for them.
Soulstone Spa & Apothecary opened in July of 2020, in the middle of the COVID pandemic. Despite this, great progress has been made building clientele and making sales. In December 2020, I ran a fundraiser called Gift As You Receive where for every full priced service purchased, I donated an hour massage or facial to a breast cancer patient. We raised 18 sessions, and those who were not camera shy are featured on our Instagram page (@soulstonespa) receiving their goodie bags. In June of this year, I began offering oncology facials and even started a small skincare line that is safe for use during chemo. There's even an amazing aloe based gel that is soothing for radiation and sun burns! I'm so happy and proud of the work done so far, but there's much more to do!
Right now, I'd like to expand hours and move into a more affordable space. I work in the studio mostly on Sundays and the occasional weekday evening. I am still employed full time at a hospital. The space I am in currently is shared with many other therapists. This creates some difficulty accessing the room when needed and renting the space full time is not possible budget wise. I'd like to have a consistent space that allows me to expand as business picks up. Thankfully, I've identified a more affordable space and I'd love to make it as comfortable as possible for my amazing patients. I am hoping to raise $5,000 for the following:
1. An electric massage table
2. Storage cabinets
4. Portable sink
As a thank you for your donation you will receive a discount, or depending on your donation tier, services as described below. Thank you for helping me to fulfill my mission of providing quality spa services for the oncology patient.
