Sir/Madam,My name is Sean Grieve and I am a young Scottish filmmaker. I have just finished my first year studying film at Screen Academy Scotland (which is an institution formed through a collaboration between Edinburgh Napier University & Edinburgh University) and have been researching about exchange programs that students can partake in when they reach their third year. My university offers the chance to go to Brooklyn College (or the City University of New York) for one year if, by this time next year, I can raise the required sum of £10,000. This is the minimum sum required and apparantly just covers one's living costs. I work, and by the time summer ends and I go back to school, I will have £2,300. Some savings bring this figure to £3,500. Half of it will probably go towards flights, leaving me with £1,250.  I am 19 years old and I have always seen university as the beginning of my life. I have been interested in filmmaking for over 8 years and studying the craft every day is something I cherish. Over 150 feature films are made in New York a year. It is a place absolutely teeming with filmmakers. This opportunity is priceless to me. I have the chance to experience America, the way of thinking, the culture, the fast-paced life of New York and the people within it. There is no other place that I consider more influential and I think that spending an entire year there will change my perspective on everything to no end. The amount of information and contacts that I will garner at the age of 20 will be invaluable for the rest of my life. Screen Academy Scotland is recognised as a centre of excellence for film, has patrons such as Sean Connery and Judi Dench, and the graduates often screen their work at film festivals such as Venice and Beijing. Lynne Ramsay studied at Screen Academy Scotland and now makes feature films. In additon, one of my tutors, Karel Dolak, was nominated for BAFTAs in his second year of studying film and he constantly works on features. I am telling you this to illustrate that I am serious about filmmaking and study at a great institution. If I can raise money through gofundme, it means I will be able to focus more on filmmaking throughout this year and receive better grades. I need 60 credits to be eligible to go on the exchange. Even if I work all year at my job, I will be unable to raise the amount required. Fundraising is one of my only viable options under my circumstances. If you have any questions, please get in touch. If I can do anything to win your generosity, tell me. Thank you for your time and consideration.Yours Sincerely,Sean GrieveUniversities I can Study At Brooklyn College - Edinburgh Napier Page Screen Academy Scotland
