Hi! My name is Valeria Castro and I am 16 years old. I am currently a junior in high school and I am planning my future with college. I grew up in Inglewood, CA with one sister, one brother, and a single parent, my mother. As I grew up, I learned not to value the material things, but the things that stay with you. For example, education is something that can never be taken away from you. I have worked very hard throughout my school years since elementary school because I strongly believe that education is the key to success. I want to study to become a Sports Medicine Doctor. A Sports Medicine Doctor is the person that helps prevent and treat injuries in athletes. I am currently taking challenging classes such as college level classes at a community college and AP classes like, AP Biology, AP U.S. History, etc. I also play sports and help out in my community while maintaining a GPA above a 4.0. After I graduate high school, I am planning to study abroad in the UK due to their accelerated education process and they are home to six of the top 10 universities in the world. I would be the first person in my family to graduate from a university. As a U.S. citizen, I am required to get a UK visa. The requirements to get a visa is to have at least $15,000 for living cost and $15,000 for first year's tuition, which would be about 2 years of my mother's hard working money without spending a penny. She works really hard to keep a roof over our head and food on the table. Unfortunately, her paycheck doesn't stretch out enough for her to cover this new expense on her own. I have been saving my own money from recycling, birthday and Christmas money since I was 13 years old, depriving myself from any luxuries but, I currently have $1,000 which is way below my goal. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
My favorite quote comes from my mom and it says, "Every penny counts towards education!"
Thank you so much for your generosity.
