Every kilometer plants a tree

This year I decided to plant a tree instead of cutting one down. By walking

On Christmas morning I will start walking in the very south of Portugal, Lagos, following the Rota Vicentina to Santiago do Cacém, about 300 km and then...well who knows, there is really no end to this walk.

WHY you ask?

Because I believe that trees are our most valuable natural resource, together with water. They, alongside the very valuable phytoplankton produce our oxygen, and we do need that.

When you think about the landscapes you see while driving your car in the countryside, most of the time you will see empty fields used for agriculture, densely planted trees that are likely not native to the area, you will see destroyed topsoil and barely any animals. This needs to change.

My walk by itself might not plant a lot of trees, 1 for each km is provided by Gone West, and one or a few might be planted by you, but what I really hope for it to do is to change your perspective on the urgency of this.

So that is why I decided to embark on this little adventure and hope you will be there to support.

Where will these trees be planted?

In Portugal. In this country excessive planting of eucalyptus trees created a perfect environment for fire to spread and that is exactly what happened in 2017 destroying the natural growth of thousands of other species. That is why Gone West is planting 20.000 trees with the Wildlings in the Pinhal Interior region of Central Portugal.
