„Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.“
My name is Sarah, I am 26 years old and I am a prospective teacher from Germany. I spent three months in Kumasi, Ghana teaching at Divine International School.
During my time I noticed how many families struggle to pay the school fees. One term (three months of school) costs between 100 - 150 Ghana cedi per student, which equals 14-21 €/ 12-18 £/ 17-25 $. As you can see, for most of us that is not too much money as you can buy a dinner at a restaurant from that amount.
The students who are unable to pay the school fees are either forced to work selling water on the street in the morning or after school in the evening, or they have to drop out of school for good.
I had the privilege to get to know some of my student’s families and the homes they live in. One of my 6th grade students lost her father a couple of years ago. After that the mother was left to raise eight children alone. The family lost all their money and the children hat to drop out of school. Due to the lack of money they had to go around the street and beg for money and food. Only with financial support it is now possible for the students to have at least on meal a day, live in a small apartment and attend school again.
With your donation you help families like that not only to get access to education, but also having the spare money, which is so much needed, for things like food, rent and school supplies.
We put together a video to provide you with some more general information about the school life and its students. We wanted to make sure that you as a potential donor know exactly where your money is going. This foundation is an ongoing foundation, therefore you can donate on a monthly basis!
Special thanks go to Tomas Gajdos (see picture in the gallery) who helped creating the awesome video and Florence Nketia (see picture in the gallery) my helping hand in Ghana, who helps submit background information and manages the donations once they are transferred to Ghana.
Thank you for your kind donations.
