Every child can learn every child must learn

My name is Michelle Dunkley and I am from Jamaica. I am 18 years of age (female). I am currently in the process of applying to the Grand Canyon University in Arizona.  I have an unfathomable passion for Law/Legal Studies. I have a vision where I will make a change during and at the end of my studies with regards to crime against us youth, both male and female.  I too am a victim of abuse towards young women and I have been in that dark place from which I thought I had no return; but with family and God I made it through.  Unfortunately not every victim is lucky enough to have Family or persons they can confide in.  This is where I come in, my vision comes in, not only will crime prevention acts be considered, but the creation of environments in which victims can come and feel free and safe to speak with genuine persons instead of persons who seem automated in their responses. I am an only child and I have been raised by only my mother.  I am not going to lie and say I'm sleeping on a cardboard box or eating out of a tin. We live in a fairly comfortable apartment, which many people don't have; but the monthly income is ridiculous and I have been putting off attending university for two years now hoping, praying for a way and opportunities have come but due to the high currency exchange rate between Jamaica and the United States it makes financing school nearly impossible.  Tuition rate for one semester is more than my mother earns in a month, so you see my predicament.  I would love this scholarship not only to help my mother out but to get me one step closer to my dream.
