My wife (Pao) and I will hike the Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek as a couple on 18-31 October 2019. As we hike to EBC, we want to dedicate our journey by raising a fund for Alzheimer's Indonesia (ALZI / alzi.or.id).
100% of the raised fund will be donated to ALZI. We will cover all our EBC costs.
Our Bucket List
We started to grow our interests in nature and hiking just recently. Since early 2019, we went to do body rafting at the Green Canyon (Pangandaran), hike Mount Merbabu (Boyolali) and participate in the Fjallraven Indonesia Discovery 2019 (Bromo). Before that, I hiked Mount Batur (Bali) and Mount Semeru (Malang) in 2018.
We are planning to close 2019 by ticking a major item in our bucket list, i.e. hiking to the Everest Base Camp. This requires a lot of commitment and preparation, i.e. physical fitness, mental readiness, time and support from people closest to us.
With all these big efforts, we want to dedicate our journey by raising a fund to support Alzheimer's Indonesia (ALZI / alzi.or.id). ALZI is a non-profit organization that has a vision and aims to help and improve the quality of life of People with Dementia (Orang dengan Dementia / ODD), Alzheimer, and families and ODD caregivers in Indonesia.
Why We Do This
This is also to honor my wife's mother and late father who suffer from Dementia Alzheimer. From our experience, we realize that we know so little about Alzheimer. People too often take the condition of ODD early symptoms for granted. We think that it is okay for older people to forget things, become disoriented, lose motivation, etc. There is no cure for Alzheimer. Yet, it can be detected early and treated to delay the impact so that ODD can still live a quality life.
We want to raise a minimum of US$10,000 by 30 September 2019. All funds will be donated to ALZI after the campaign ends. ALZI will use the funds for the following activities:
1. Organizing caregiver meetings in 18 chapters across Indonesia
Caregivers meeting is an activity held regularly, aimed to provide support, knowledge and information to ODD and their caregivers in the journey of dementia care, as well as to improve the quality of life of ODD and their caregivers.
2. Inter-generation home visits
This activity aimed to encourage youth participation in raising awareness to reduce stigma, increase understanding and create a generation who are not afraid to speak about dementia and how they can help.
3. Dementia care skills trainings
This activity is aimed to provide knowledge, skill and information on how to take care of ODD, especially to family caregivers and domestic workers.
How You Can Support
We hope that you support this fundraising and ALZI to increase the awareness of Alzheimer in Indonesia and also to help all the ODD and caregivers to increase the quality of their lives.
The donation can be made via Paypal, credit card (both options are available from the Paypal page) or my bank account (please message me for my BCA account number).
