Event management company – Sarajevo

My story is as follows: I am a 27 year old Sarajevo-native that spent most of his life in Malta. At 18, having never lived in the country of my birth, I moved back to the Bosnian capital in a coming of age move. I got accepted into the Academy of Peforming Arts where I studied film and theatre directing in a city known for the arts. Yet, the economic and social turmoil that is Bosnia & Herzegovina - a country that has through the decades become a synonym for war and destruction, prevented me from working in the field I was educated in. I had oppertunities to leave but I didn't move on them - I want to stay here and take part in creating a brighter future for the generations to come. During my stay here I met some of the most amazing and talented young professionals in the fields of liberal arts, marketing, product design, graphics design and the IT Sector - ones that have been educated for jobs that cannot be found in this country and ones that, unlike myself, don't have the oppertunity to leave. My campaign is about them and about us, its about building a family-like company that will grant oppertunities to young, talented professionals.

Peppermint Nights will be a micro-enterprise Event management start-up based in a city with a turbulent and often times ominous history - often being nicknamed the Jerusalem of the West. Sarajevo, on a positive note, has become a hot bed for the arts, film and culture as a result of it's citizen's resilliant nature during the siege of the city in the early 90's - a siege who's marks can still be seen across the land. The Sarajevo Film Festival, MESS theatre festival, Sarajevo Jazz Festival, Sarajevo Beer Festival, Baščaršija Nights festival and Sarajevo Winter festival are just some of the cultural happenings the city has to offer. A vibrant night life and a powerful, underground EDM scene further enhance the city's appeal, yet organized and professional event management that would represent a powerful tool for the promotion of the country and the employement of its urban and educated youth does not exist. Hence, with a background in film and theatre, I plan on creating the first event management firm in the city as a way to find my place in this world and not be forced to be one of the hundreds of thousands leaving this beautiful country, fight prejudice through positive promotion, give back to the community both directly and indirectly and prove that a positive, entrepreneurial climate is possible in a place seldom known for anything other than war and violence.

There are not many doors on which a young Bosnian entrepreneur can knock on, but I refuse to be apathatic. The minimum amount of funding I need is 5000 euros (5300 USD), but if I am able to raise more every cent would be of a benefit. My professional goal, as is stated in my business plan, is employing 6 young professionals by the end of the first year. My project is as much a start up as it is a community project. I am aware that this campaign might get lost between all these amazing projects I've come across on this websites and I am also aware a potential donator might ask himself/herself why they should donate to a start up project aiming at such a trivial field. To that I can say that official state statistics show that this country has the lowest rate of small to medium business establishment in Europe. For many people who float between a historical burden they had no part in and a world which seems to be speedily getting away from them, a company like this is all but trivial.
