ASSOCIATION IN Pakistan is conducting a on ‘Understanding and assessing Information systems in health in relation to stillbirths’, to assess the existing information systems for stillbirth reporting, consolidation of information (number and causes of stillbirth) and to identify the gaps. The research will provide preliminary insights into factors associated with stillbirths in rural, impoverished and socially marginalized areas of the country. The study is focused on the identification of ways in which health reporting and recording among such populations by the health information systems can be improved. Study findings based policy recommendations will be developed to disseminate the research results with stakeholders and health department personnel at district, provincial and national level for policy change & improvement.   Objectives       A) Primary Objectives:       To identify the provisions for recording stillbirths in the information and management systems;       To describe the process of still birth reporting with reference to information flow, reporting and accuracy;       To assess the existing practices of the personnel responsible to collect information, and whether they follow the recording        protocols/instructions for stillbirths where these are provided for in the recording system;       To describe the utilization of information on stillbirths at various levels of the health sector for decision making and incorporation into the        health policy;       To compare the DHIS, and LHW-MIS with the Vital registration systems at the sub-district level for stillbirths recording and statistics       To assess the health care provider's capacity and perspectives about stillbirths in relation to the information system & its utilization;       To explore women’s perspectives and opinions about reporting of stillbirth and its causes in existing public sector healthcare mechanisms.       To assess the perspectives of community based informal service providers (Dai's and TBAs) on still births, importance of reporting and how        this information can be incorporated into the public information system?       B)Secondary Objectives:       To define primary research and program priorities in this area, the project will undertake a comprehensive review of available information        on stillbirths, and synthesized this information to:       Understand the local terminology used for still birth by mothers and health providers;       Evaluate the level of evidence of circumstances influencing/ contributing to still birth;       Elucidate the stigmas associated with still births       Assess factors (social norms) supporting/ preventing identification of different types of still birth.
