On Saturday we planted more than 300 trees thanks to your donations!!🌳🌼

We planted Cherry trees for the insects, Mapple trees that grow fast but also Oaks which are beautiful, majestic and live long!! 😋

Every tree we planted has a specific role in the new forest but they will all contribute to absorbing CO2 out of the air! 🌳🌼

Dear donor, a tree was given your name! It will now adapt and grow, thanks to you!

Don't hesitate to go and say Hi to your tree, you will see how fast it grows and how beautiful they are :)

The EU Trainees Forest will be planting trees in January and February! Come have fun with us!

Last step of our EU Trainees Forest: the REAL reforestation project!

#Adoptatree and #plantyourtrees to our Plant-a-Tree ceremony the 18th of January or the 9th of February. 🌳🌼
This is the occasion to concretely act for the Climate and our Biodiversity.
Soup and food will be offered 😋

****************** UPDATE ON THE EU TRAINEES ORCHARD GUIDED TOUR *******************************

EU Trainees Forest event creates a buzz in Jette!

Did you know…

  • neurobiology has found that trees can communicate?
  • trees can sweat in the hot sun?
  • ‘forest bathing’ is a type of therapy recommended by the Japanese government?
  • most bees don’t live in colonies?

Trainees from the EU institutions and members of the public discovered the answers to these questions and much more over the weekend. On Sunday 23rd June, we gathered in the north-west of Brussels for an Orchard Walking Tour and Flower Garden Visit, organised by the EU Trainees Forest, and co-hosted by Nature à Jette and Wood Wide Web.

The day consisted of a brief tour to the orchard and a commentary about each of the trees there. We stopped at each tree to hear a short story or explanation of the origin of the tree, its species, and some funny anecdotes or sayings about it embedded in language. Visitors were invited to ‘adopt’ a tree, which involved a little ceremony of tying a piece of twine between a tree branch and the person’s wrist, while playing musical instruments and singing songs.

Afterwards, we were given an introduction to urban beekeeping, and the various species of bees. The instructor used a dummy beehive to show how to manage a colony. We were shown an example of a ‘bee hotel’, which mimics the kind of habitat where solitary bees usually nest, and then got to try some locally produced honey! One trainee even got the chance to don a beekeeper’s protective gear and examine one of the active hives.

At the end, the EU Trainees Forest distributed packs of seeds to sow flowers in their garden or nearest green space to provide crucial sources of nectar for pollinating insects. Each visitor was also able to take home a flower that was kindly donated by the public greenhouses of Jette.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the event and those who have donated so far! Every little helps! Keep beeing awesome!

Dear Trees Lovers!!

Thank you for your donations! We now have more than 1.600 and this is GREAT !!!

It is now time for more CONCRETE actions!

On Friday, we went to visit the site of our fist project: the TRANSFORMATION of an agricultural land into FOREST.

Find out more about this project in the video below

Do you want to CONNECT those tiny spots of FOREST to each others?

Do you want those lands to become FOREST and store CARBON?

Do you want to favor the spreading and settlement of the BIODIVERSITY present in this unique spot of PRIMARY trees ?

Do you want this place to be a peaceful and pleasant JOYRIDING place?

YOU can DO it by DONATING to our project and SHARING it!

THANKS!!

Your EU Trainees Forest Team.

Who are we ?

We are a group of trainees working at the EU institutions and with your help, we want to plant trees and honey bees plants to fight climate change and biodiversity losses.

Quick facts

… on forests

  • Forest are the lungs of the Earth: they produce oxygen, store carbon and are a unique reserve of biodiversity
  • The frequency, intensity and timing of fires, droughts and diseases together with human activities threaten forest biodiversity

… on honey bees

  • Bees are on the decline : in some member states, the number of bee colonies has declined by more than 50%
  • Around 84% of plant species and 76% of food production in Europe depends on pollination

Our vision

We believe that together, we can contribute and make a change! With your support, we want to

  • Reforest agricultural lands in a unique spot in the Flemish Ardennes. With better forest inter-connection and habitats, the unique biodiversity present in the primary forest can easily spread, settle and flourish in the new forests.
  • Sow honey plants in a natural reserve around Namur. Joyful flowers, colourful landscapes, delicious aromas... Honey plants are not only an important source for bee-keeping but they also contribute to the sweet smell of spring-time.

We have partnered with Bos+ and Natagora, two organisations which are based in the Flemish(Bos+) and French-speaking parts of Belgium.(Natagora)

Help us by following these 4 easy steps!

  1. CHOOSE your donation and your reward
  2. WRITE a message with your name- this will be placed on the tree (or more names if you donate for several trees). Feel free to write anything else you would like to tell us... your feedback counts! :)
  3. DONATE by credit card or Pay Pal (we receive about 92% of the funds due to transaction costs)
  4. SHARE your donation and spread the message! More trees = more CO2 reductions & biodiversity =more climate resilience!!!

It's a small step, but one in the right direction.

Thanks for making our environment a better environment!
