“Lola Inday” as we fondly call her had worked as a house help in my mother’s family ever since she was 18 years old. Currently, she lives with us even after retirement because she has nowhere to go to. She lives with the children she took care of, who she fondly calls her “alaga”. They are now adults and she consider them her family.
This October 2020, she was diagnosed with Breast CA Stage 3C (Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma). Aside from that she also has the following conditions (diagnosed in 2007):
2. Bronchial Asthma, Bronchiectasis, and Pulmonary Congestion – Lung Diseases which causes her to have difficulty breathing and feel as if she’s drowning occasionally
3. Bradyarrhythmia – her heart beats abnormally (slow) which can cause future complications
These require her to take at least 6 maintenance medications daily which costs Php 5K ($104) per month which is sponsored by her “alaga”.
These are her maintenance medications:
- Amlodipine +Losartan 50/5
- Symbicort Inhaler
- Terbutaline 2x a day
- Theophylline once a day
- Furosemide (Diuretics) once a day
Currently, she has been advised for insertion of a permanent pacemaker for her heart because her congestion is getting worse which costs Php 300,000 ($6,235) for the room Accommodation & doctor’s professional fee
Apart from this she also requires the following treatment procedures for her Breast CA.
· Chemotherapy (6 cycles) 36.5K per cycle = Php 220K ($4,572)
· Targeted Therapy (18 cycles) 90K per cycle = Php 1.62M ($33,668)
· Radiotherapy (30 sessions) 40K ($831)
· Anti-hormonal Therapy ( 33pesos/day for 5-10 years) = Php 60K ($1,247)
+ Additional Laboratory Procedures in between chemo sessions estimated to cost Php 50K ($1,039)
Amounting to an estimated total of Php Php 3,070,000 ($63,803), which she cannot afford. Her life savings, which she worked hard for during these past 50 years was STOLEN from her. For the past 50 years, she has been sending money to her relatives in the province thinking that her retirement house was being built. She then found out later that there was no house for her to go home to after retirement and the money was used up for other purposes.
She recently underwent a total mastectomy which was paid for by her “alaga”. No relatives were there to help her through her hospital stay and recovery even though they were informed. For the past years, her relatives have been borrowing money from her. They haven’t paid until now. After they realize that she was collecting their debts, they change their number and refused to answer her calls.
Now, she doesn’t have any savings left. Her “alaga” cannot afford to pay for her treatments anymore since they have families to feed and children to send to school. The doctor wants her to begin treatment immediately but we have no funds . We kindly ask for your help any amount would be a huge help to us.
