HELP KIDS! In India Learn English

More Indians are attending school than ever before. The demand for teachers is more and the supply less. Still many schools face the problem of lack of infrastructure. Even today Indian schools are not maintaining the standard of education. There are 1500 languages in India and it’s a difficult task for a teacher to teach every student in their own language. In urban areas parents prefer English medium for their children’s education, also now a days in remote areas English medium is preferred.

On the 03rd of June 2019, I have an opportunity to spend 17 weeks with an NGO volunteering in Faridabad Haryana, India teaching English to children!

The ratio of students to teachers is high, leading to ineffectiveness. The rural atmosphere does not provide students the opportunity to speak and learn English. The size of the classes everywhere is considerably large. This is one of the reasons why individual attention is not possible to the students. Teaching of English needs a drastic change for the benefit of learners in schools and colleges. The students of rural and semi-urban areas in India face a lot of problems as English is not their mother tongue. English is their second language. In many places, English becomes the third language as they have a local language, then Hindi followed by English.

With little resources and limited staff, volunteers are in high demand to assist with teaching English in local schools. As a volunteer I will focus on developing the students conversational English, assist in developing creative lesson plans and teaching classes independently with the support of local teachers.

In order to participate I will be responsible for program fees, which will cover my accommodation, meals, program placement, volunteer support services, placement supervision and administration costs of the program. Furthermore, I will have extra costs such as airfares to India, in-country travel and vaccinations.
