(This text is also written in danish at the buttom.)

We are 7 Danish volunteers in Cochabamba, Bolivia - Sara, Emma, Jais, Simon, Tess, Marcus and Amalie. We have traveled with the Danish organization Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke and we are now volunteering for the Bolivian organization Yo Voy A Ti, where we're going to work until the end of December 2013.

What is Yo Voy A Ti?

Yo Voy A Ti is a non-profit organization, which was founded in 2008 by a group of local youths to help kids and youths living in the streets of Cochabamba. The name "Yo Voy A Ti" means "I come to you", and reflects the organization's philosophy, that our work with the kids and youths should be based in where they are and what they come from.

Today Yo Voy A Ti works with many different projects in Cochabamba, for example a microfinance-project, a football-project and The Mobile School.

What is The Mobile School?

The Mobile School is a big box on wheels, which contains, and can be unfolded into, a bunch of blackboards and different kinds of educational games. Everyday we drive the school to the different areas of the city, where the impoverished and homeless people live. Besides providing basic education, the purpose of The Mobile School is to raise their self-esteem and encourage them to create a better living for themselves. The educational material focuses on:

  1. Confidence and self-esteem
  2. Literacy
  3. Creativity
  4. Health and hygiene
  5. Learning through play
  6. Social and communication skills
  7. Minority rights
  8. Drug prevention
  9. Prevention of HIV/AIDS

Football and English project in Takoloma

We are right now in the middle of the process of starting a new project in the poor area Takoloma, where there currently are no other organizations. In this area, we are running a football-school for the kids and youths in the area, and we are planning on starting an English school and homework center soon. We have premises available, but are still missing resources to buy tables, chairs, blackboards and more, and in addition we're missing balls, cones and shirts for the football project.

Dance project in Takoloma

At the moment we are creating a danceproject in Takoloma as well, which will contain different types of dances to different styles of music. The main goal is that the kids will have a fun time and increase their self-esteem which will be done through a positive and constructive way of learning. Besides, we want them to learn about creative ways of expression, and get them to try something totally different and break some totally other limits. The project is made in the same spirit as "The mobile school" and the mentality of Yo Voy A Ti - and we are looking forward to get it started.

How can you help?

We're very grateful for any donation amount. For example a football costs about 6$, 12 cones costs 12$, a blackboard costs 25$ and a table with chairs costs 35$. All donations will go directly to Yo Voy A Ti*. The money will be used primarily on the football and English project in Takoloma, and secondarily on the upkeep of The Mobile School.

We would greatly appreciate if you could share this page with friends and family, so we can spread the word, and gather the resources we need to run the projects.

In advance, many thanks for your support.

*When you donate, the site will say that the owner of the account is Helen G. Schmitz, one of the leaders of Yo Voy A Ti.

Hvad er Yo Voy A Ti?

Danseprojekt i Takoloma

Donationerne går direkte til Yo Voy A Ti*.
