Hello all!

Teachers in the Early Years are very crucial to a child’s development! I would like to share my knowledge and skills with other Early Childhood Educators in Uganda. Since founding Gulu Montessori School in July 2017, and working with other Kindergarten teachers in northern Uganda region, I have identified important areas of professional development the teachers need in order to improve the children’s learning and school performance.

Most of the current teachers are professionals who experienced violence and trauma during the twenty two years of war between the Lord’s Resistance Army led by Joseph Kony and the Government of Uganda.Some of these teachers still suffer from back lashes and post traumatic stress. It is important that support is provided to enhance their professional performance.

What has this got to do with you? Well I need a bit of help to be able to buy the much needed teaching equipment and materials. The equipment would help reduce training costs. Early Childhood Educators are paid about less than 50 pence per day and the schools do not receive adequate funding to support staff development.

The money raised will go towards buying the much needed equipment for the mobile training workshops to be used in schools within the rural and urban areas. The equipments are; Laptop, Projector, Camera, Tri-pod stand and small portable Bluetooth speakers, Equipment Power Bank, generator, printer, scanner, photocopier and reference books.

Here is a bit more about the professional development project;

The project has two components namely; Training Early Childhood Educators the correct way to teach reading and hand writing and training successful leaders in the early years. The project shall take place on Saturdays or Sundays between 8am and 4pm for a period of five years.

We will work with thirty primary schools and seventy nursery/kindergarten schools. The total number of teachers shall be; 180 Primary and 420 Kindergarten school teachers.

Teachers will have the opportunity to learn and share best practices in educating learners in the foundation key stages of development. In so doing, the school performance would greatly improve and more children can achieve the required grades in later years of their Primary Leaving Examinations.

We would really appreciate anything you can offer to help us out with this amazing cause.
