For a long time I have been wanting to take part in volunteer work abroad. For those who know me, you will already be aware of my passion for preserving our environment and sustainable living. I have finally gathered the courage to register for a program and lock in dates!
At the end of August I will be flying out to Peru where I will be taking part in the Jungle Conservation program in the Amazon Rainforest through International Volunteer Headquarters.
It will be a pretty rustic life for the weeks during my program; no electricity and no internet access and some hard work to be expected! Our program involvement may include any number of tasks such as, reforestation, trail and conservation home-base maintenance, conducting animal inventories and other research projects.
I am very excited - a little scared! But mostly, I am looking forward to the opportunity to give back to a cause I believe in (and get hit with a massive reality check from my experience).
