Campaign Story
In late August, it was discovered that 4-year-old Emily Jayne had a giant malignant tumor extending from her upper spine into her brain. Several miraculous surgeries later, doctors at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin are applying regular radiation treatment to hopefully ensure that the cancer does not reappear.
At the same time, therapists are working every day to help little Emily recover her muscle function, her ability to walk and her ability to speak. It has been slow going, but there are many signs of hope. For more than a month, Emily could not speak a word, but now she can slowly recite the alphabet. Doctors are very positive that Emily will one day again live a normal life (and even play sports and participate in other demanding physical activities).
Emily's devoted parents have been taking turns shuttling back and forth between Neenah and Milwaukee, maintaining their jobs while struggling to never leave Emily alone. While their insurance will cover a large perecentage of Emily's care, they will still need to pay the children's hospital a great sum of money.
Emily's care has included 2 major surgeries, 9 MRIs (Emily will also require 4 MRIs a year for the coming five years at $15,000 a pop), dozens of tests, radiation therapy, physical and speech therapy, and nearly 2 months of in-patient care (with another month or two of in-patient care on the horizon). As you can imagine, this adds up fast. Even considering the amount their health insurance policy will cover, Emily's parents will still be responsible for tens of thousands of dollars over the coming year.
Won't you help Emily Jayne reach full recovery? Your financial generosity and prayers go a long way toward helping little Emily return to a normal life. Thank you!
