We want to share with you all that we are travelling to Calais next Friday to volunteer for the Care4Calais charity. We know what you are all thinking, but no, the reason for this is not just because Jude Law visited the camp last weekend, although we do admit that we regret not organising our dates a little earlier...!
Care4Calais was started by a small group of volunteers from the UK to support the people of the Calais refugee camps. The current 6,000 refugees whom the charity works with is a number that grows every day, fleeing persecution and war torn countries like Afghanistan, Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan, Libya and Syria. Many have travelled the perilous journey of thousands of miles, mostly men but also women and children, and are in need of fresh meals, decent clothing, heating and significant legal and medical support.
The ‘Migrant Crisis’ is a phrase that has been embedded into the UK’s media narrative, however it is important that this exposure does not numb us to the desperate reality that these people face every day.
All donations, no matter how small, are gratefully appreciated. Please give what you can to a worthy cause.
Thank you for your time,
Em, Jess and Fiona xxxx
PS For those who we haven’t quite managed to persuade, we leave you with Jude in his prime…
