February 20 at 5:08pm ·

Ronald (Ronnie) Lynn Thomas, age 52, of rural Chapman, Kansas, passed away at Geary Community Hospital on February 17, 2018.

Ronnie was born in Abilene, Kansas to Robert Thomas, Sr and Elsie Faye (Hutchinson) Thomas on May 29th, 1965. He attended Abilene Schools and graduated with the class of 1983 from Abilene High School. He then attended Hutchinson Community College where he played football and graduated with a degree in Animal Science. Ronnie’s love of animals led him to professionally train and race greyhounds for Rider Kennels and himself.

When he met the love of his life, Barbara (Barb) Lott, he declared, “hook me up!” The two were married on January 24, 1998 in Norman, Oklahoma. Together, they raised their children south of Chapman and devoted much time to Lyon Creek 4-H Club. Ronnie and his family were honored as the Geary County 4-H Family of the Year in 2017. He was a beloved member of the Chapman community and always willing to help a friend in need. Ronnie was an active coach for t-ball, softball, baseball, football, and wrestling. His large presence will be missed leaning over the fence encouraging his kids and critiquing the officials. He has mentored many of our local youth, quick to praise or offer advice. Ronnie was strong and tough. He pushed his children fiercely, but always to bring out their best. They would not be the amazing young adults they are today without his vigilant devotion. The last 9 years, he shared his skills on Fort Riley as a Warehouse Specialist where he was affectionately known as “the big guy.” This did not stop him from pursuing his passion for animals. He maintained a small farmstead south of Chapman which supplied all his children 4-H animals. His efforts provided a strong work ethic, love for the land, and sustenance for him and his family. He will forever be remembered as a faithful friend, husband, and father.

Ronnie is survived by wife, Barbara (Lott) Thomas; children Timothy Coles (Lauren) of Larned, KS, Colby Thomas of St. Louis, MO, Mathew Coles (Ashton) of Topeka, KS, and Rebekah Thomas of Chapman, KS; grandchildren Winslet Coles, Jaylen Thomas, Ava Thomas, and Vanessa Thomas; and brothers Robert Thomas, Jr and Richard Thomas of Ocoee, FL. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Faye Thomas.

A visitation will be held at Londeen’s Funeral Home Friday, February 23rd from 5:30 to 7:30. The funeral will be held at the Chapman Nazarene Church on Saturday at 2:00 with interment at the Lyona Cemetery following. The family is accepting donations to create a scholarship in his name.

We have been trying to find a way to get them back for the services Both Rick and Robert are disabled, and we are very low income. Can you please help these to get back for to be with other family to celebrate their brother's life. Plane tickets need to be purchased in the next few hours to get flights. If not they are going to have to drive which will be very difficult with Robert's physical disabilities and the pain he is still in from recent shoulder replacemet surgery.

ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO HELP WILL BE SO GREATFULLY APPRECIATED.
