Emergency Response to the Cyclones and War

For the first time in recorded history, two strong tropical cyclones made landfall in Mozambique ( Cabo Delgado province) in the same season. At this time the region is under attacks by insurgents or terrorists (radical Islamist groups). The war and cyclones brought about significant displacement and protection concerns while exacerbating existing protection risks to already highly vulnerable populations, such as women, children, older persons, persons living with HIV / AIDS and people with disabilities, including albinism.

More than half of the people affected are children and protection concerns, including violence, exploitation, neglect and abuse of children, sexual and gender-based violence, sexual exploitation and abuse, loss of personal documentation, and issues related to land and property rights have been reported.

Now (i) those settlement centers are facing sanitation challenges, as the lack of access to proper hygiene and health care; (ii) lack of awareness and prevention response to violence, sexual abuse and exploitation of young women.

With the novel COVID 19, the situation is worsening. The COVID 19 it’s a challenge not only because of the underdeveloped water system, but the Sanitation-related illnesses. This project Health promotion – aimed at enhancing appropriate behavior through community mobilization to transform the health and quality of life of the poor and vulnerable.

Support us to deliver Aid to women and children, disadvantaged groups such as people with disabilities, and adolescents. We need to (1) Distribute food seeds so that the households can start on their yard, a vegetable gardens, keyhole / urban vertical garden to facilitate access to nutritious food; (2) Supply of material for the production of quail eggs; (3)Produce spots, audio-radio to broadcast theater plays through community radio, in local languages, in two approaches: Reducing high-risk hygienic practices due to COVID 19; and, Promoting appropriate use and maintenance of facilities; (4) produce and distribute 10.000 homemade facemasks (5) conduct community awareness sessions on reporting community mechanism and response to sexual abuse and exploitation cases affecting children and adult beneficiaries which are now aggravated by impact of measures to prevent COVID-19 pandemic.
