We are young India expats attempting to do our part for the victims of Kashmir. Some of you may know me, other may not. My name is Saif and I am a India based , working with the huge network of Kashmiris around the world in whatever way we can.( http://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/floodfuryhitsjk/nature-s-fury-sufferings-heroic-rescues-kashmir-floods-in-30-pictures/article1-1262377.aspx  )In the last few days Indian Controlled Kashmir has seen the worst floods in living memory. Estimates of the dead exceed 400 and over 2,500 villageshave been destroyed. Hospitals have been submerged, Infante dead bodies are floating ,over 50 bridges destroyed and hundreds of kilometres of water supply damaged. There has been very little government relief provided to the victims. Local people have carried out rescue operations in flood ridden areas despite the overwhelming situation in which most of Srinagar was under water on Sunday morning. The makeshift rescue equipment and rafts have rescued many but thousands are still waiting for evacuation. Those still waiting for relief from their rooftops need international help.Supplies in Kashmir have been washed away or destroyed. We will be raising funds which will be used to buy the necessary rescue equipment, medicineand commodities in Delhi. This will then be delivered to Srinagar by air. Immediately we are focussing on life rafts so the volunteers can reachstranded civilians as quickly as possible, and ofcourse give them medical aid. Each raft costs close to £2,000 so please bear that in mind.We are working with our partners and friends in Delhi, Mumbai, Punjab and Kashmir . I will personally be in India to assist in the purchase of stock, which will be transported by our kind friends working in the airline industry at their own cost. We will also be working with the state Governments emergency desk in Delhi to fast-track the transport and use their facilities too. Please donate generously as the task ahead is huge and will only become clearer as the waters begin to recede.
