Emergency Open Heart Surgery Operation for Edwin Tuyay

Update posted by Bruce Tuyay On Sep 05, 2019

Hey all,

Just wanted all of you to know that my dad's surgery went well, he got out of the ICU fast and his recovery is underway. We've had some setbacks like this morning as he tried to stand up and walk around, he got dizzy and his vitals went unstable. Luckily, the staff at the Philippine Heart Center were quick to action and went out of their way to give out extra care to my Dad. News is, he's doing fine now, just resting and trying to recuperate from what happened earlier. He's usually comfortable aside from the nagging pain he constantly feels in his back, the doctors has given him painkillers for it, and he's taking it whenever the pain sets in.

I was with him last night and I'd say that he's doing very well. There's significant change in his extremities from his first two days out of the ICU. Then, he wasn't able to move his arms and legs very well cause they were swollen, but seeing him last night was a sigh of relief as the swelling have subsided and it was visible that he wasn't having trouble with moving his arms and legs cozily. Additionally, he can now somehow support his weight, and would require minimal effort to those who assist him in sitting up. We're only hoping for the best in his recovery.

Please, please, please keep including him in your prayers and if you can, keep sharing his fundraising campaign. It is a long road to 100% but we're gonna take it day by day, as we all understand that everything has its own process. We'd also like to ask, as much as he'd want to accommodate each and everyone of you, to refrain from visiting him, in the meantime, as he needs all the rest he can get.

We really appreciate all the love, support and prayers.

Have a great night. <3

Thanks for the update. Please tell Edwin: huwag magmamadali! Recovery will take a while, and the doctors know which milestones to expect and when. Mas hassle kapag minadali bumalik sa dating gawi, trust me. This is one time when you really have to strictly follow doctors’ orders. There will be therapy once cleared for that na—that will help him get his body back to working condition. Take things one day at a time. Love and prayers to all. 😊❤️

As most of you know, Dad's surgery is underway. We got down to the Operating Room at around 12pm, and the last update we got is that the doctors have already gotten the vein needed for the bypass and they're already installing the bypass as I type this. He was fine all morning, his sugar was normal, vitals were all stable and he wasn't nervous or anything. Surgery usually takes 4-6 hours and we're expecting him out of the operating room at around 5-6pm. He'll be sent directly to the SICU for three days for his recovery then off to his room once they've cleared him.

So, the fundraising has gone great! We've already covered 36% of our goal, thanks to everyone who contributed! There are no words to describe how grateful my whole family is for your help and your continued support. A lot of people have reached out to me and they've requested that I extend the end date of our fundraising for my dad, donations from all over have already covered the cost of the whole procedure and excess donations will go directly towards his recovery, therapy, and his subsistence as he won't be able to do what he loves best until after 3-4 months of recovery.

We hope that you'll continue to include my dad in your prayers, especially right at this moment as the great doctors from the Philippine Heart Center perform the procedure. And if you can, please take the time to share the fundraising campaign below. There's not much we can offer in return but we promise to pay it forward.

I'll keep you guys posted about how everything goes. Thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts. No words can describe how humbling this experience has been for all of us. We can all sleep soundly knowing that the world is inhabited by wonderful and caring souls like yours.

Hello everyone!

So the past two weeks were great. Dad's been to 4 different doctors already and he just got home from the fifth one, all doctors were consistent with their diagnosis and they all recommended him for the Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG). We also just got word from the Philippine Heart Center that they'll be expecting him to check into the hospital on August 28, two days of monitoring and conditioning then they'll perform the surgery on August 30, 2019. His case is sensitive due to the fact that he has type 2 diabetes, so they need to control his sugar and make sure that his body is ready for the surgery. We found out that the procedure would take about 6 hours, then they'll transfer him to SICU for a recovery period of 3 days, after that he'll be monitored in his own room for another 5-7 days before discharging him and sending him home.

Having been put into this situation is eye-opening for us. I just found out that there's a ton of people lined up for the same procedure as my dad's - one of the reasons why his surgery was moved to take place on the 30th, when at first, we were told that a bypass was urgent(doctor said it should be performed 5-7 days after his angiogram). Another thing is that CABG is relatively safe, this takes off a lot of worry cause who wouldn't worry when your loved one is scheduled to undergo general anesthesia? And it's amazing to know that people are working together and everyone is extending a helping hand. Thank the heavens for the whole Photography Industry coming together and making things happen, I'll be attending one of the workshops tomorrow, organized by good people in aid of my dad's medical expenses.

And thank you of course, to everyone who contributed, who shared this post and to those who are continuously storming the heavens with prayers. Everything is greatly appreciated and we promise to pay it forward.

Eat healthy, and may God bless you all. <3

Hey everyone,

Just a quick update, my Dad's doing fine, still eating healthy and taking his meds religiously. His diet usually consist of a small serving of white rice, fish and veggies, he's also munching on fruits every now and again which is why we haven't had a problem with his blood sugar going out of control lately. And in terms of his heart, these past 2 days have been good and were quite uneventful. Aside from that one instance where he experienced chest pain cause he got too inspired and moved by the outpouring of help from everyone that we decided to just tone down a lil bit on telling him about everyone's support. Grabe daw kasi siyang natotouch kaya maya't maya din siyang naluluha.

Rest assured, everything's going great with him and he's just taking it easy, taking it one day at a time. We're gonna check him in Philippine Heart Center again, maybe Wednesday or Thursday, and we'll get news about when they'll perform the surgery once we get there.

The campaign is doing real good, we've already raised 250k in just a couple of days, all thanks to everyone who contributed through sharing the campaign, donating and praying for us. We're on track to reach our goal, so if you can, please continue sharing the post and continue praying for my dad. His surgery hasn't started yet and we know that it's gonna be tough, but with the love and compassion that everyone is giving us, we're 100% sure we're gonna get through this.

Maraming maraming salamat po ulit sa inyong pagmamahal sa aking ama. Pagingatan nyo din po sana ang inyng matataba at mabubuting puso. <3

Hey all!

Just wanted to thank everyone of you for all the love and support that you're showing us in these trying times. My Dad is doing fine right now, he's back to his normal day to day routine, minus the heavy lifting and anything else that requires exertion. Plus! You'll all be glad to know that he's eating healthy and he's taking his meds religiously. My mom is also looking out for him 24/7, they just came from the doctor who'll perform the surgery on him and everyone is kind of relieved that Dad's in good hands. Everyone is still anxious about the surgery but we're comforted by the fact that everyone is standing in solidarity with us.

Anyway! It's overwhelming to see and experience the outpouring of love and support from each and everyone of you, we've just hit the 24-hour mark and we've already raised 130k!! To tell you the truth, I was a bit hesitant to launch a fundraising campaign for him, and I wasn't the only one who was doubtful in our family about the possibility that we could raise this much money from crowdfunding but we ultimately decided to push through with it, thinking that if it works, it works. And here we all are 130k and counting still a long way to go but we'll get there eventually.

When we started this fundraiser, we only expected to raise up to 50k and we've already exceeded that amount. My Dad was moved to tears yesterday when he checked the fundraiser and saw that friends, relatives, strangers, basically people from everywhere especially his fellow Photographers from all over is actively looking out for him.

If you can, please take time to once again share this post/campaign, we're gonna need all the help we can get.

The Universe is working its magic through your gentle and caring hearts, continue to be a beacon of light for those who's fighting their way out of the dark.

All of our love,

Tuyay Family

Please Please Please help with whatever you can. Save a family! Amit is suffering from cirrhosis of the liver. Now he is in stage for liver transplant and we are already in talks with a private hospital but operation cost is huge. We are not in a condition to arrange the money due to poor economic conditions. We know even after transplanting there is only a 50-50 chance of his surviving but how can we leave him dying without trying? And there is a hard process of finding a donor but the hospital has told us that if they find a donor then we have to take him for operation with short notice and his health condition is deteriorating day by day. Please help him to lead a normal life. He has his mother, wife and a 5-year-old child in the family and he is the only earning member of the family. Please help this guy with whatever you can.He needs your help and blessing both.
