Emergency Case 3 – ‘Plum’

Center for Girls is a small nonprofit organization working with the community and volunteers to end human trafficking, gender-based violence and inequality in Chiang Rai (Northern Thailand).

Emergency Assistance:

Most of CFG's projects are sustainable, participatory, and take place over several years. But staff often encounter cases of individuals or families in the community who need immediate assistance in order to survive each day.

Plum:

Plum is 45 years old and is HIV-positive, surviving each day with the use of antiretroviral medication. She has two daughters to take care of, aged thirteen and twenty, the youngest of which is in middle school and the eldest is currently attending university. Her eldest daughter’s father (Plum’s first husband) passed away from AIDS many years ago, while her younger daughter’s father refuses to take responsibility and has remained absent for many years.

Plum and her daughters reside in a wooden house in Chiang Rai, which she inherited from her half-brother, who also died from AIDS. They live on a small stretch of land that amounts to approximately 4/5 of an acre. The family’s source of income is the 500 THB monthly allowance that Plum receives from the government as a HIV patient, but the family’s outgoings are always far greater.

We are aiming to raise 60,000 THB (~1700 USD) to lend support to Plum so that she can continue sending her daughters to school and putting food on the table each day.
