Center for Girls is a small nonprofit organization working with the community to end human trafficking, gender-based violence and inequality, and empower women and children in Chiang Rai (Northern Thailand).

Emergeny Cases

Most of CFG's projects are sustainable, participatory, and take place over several years. But staff often encounter exceptional cases of individuals or families in the community who need immediate assistance in order to survive each day.

Peak:

Twenty-year old Peak is HIV-positive, having contracted the debilitating disease from her mother at birth. Peak's husband is also has HIV, and they have a three-year-old son who has not yet been tested for the disease, but is severely anaemic and regularly hospitalised. Peak's parents passed away many years ago, leaving her with the responsibility of caring for her younger sister, who was forced to drop out of education after primary school due to their impoverished circumstances. The siblings have an older brother who is under similar financial strain and unable to help support his sisters.

The family have always lived in poverty and their situation has merely worsened due to an extremely low and unstable income. They live in derelict, potentially unsafe conditions on a piece of land that they share with Peak's sister, which the owner now wishes to sell. The are in danger of being evicted if they cannot find 120,000 THB (~3420 USD) to buy the land. As a result, Peak͛'s husband has moved to another city to try to earn more money that he can send home, leaving Peak alone to look after after their young son.

The family's main source of income is the very small amount money that Peak͛'s husband is able to send home, and the 500 THB (~14 USD) monthly allowance that the local government provides for HIV/ AIDS patients. Besides their substandard living conditions, the most pressing issue that the family is presently facing is the imminent threat of homelessness.

We are asking you for assistance to help Peak and her family purchase the land that they live on and enable them to improve the state of their house and current living conditions. The total amount that we would need to raise is: 68,000 THB (~1,925 USD), and we have only raised 80 USD so far. Peak and her sister will split the cost of the land, and any funds raised will ensure that family members have a safe and sanitary place to live.

If you know of anyone who is able to help, please could you share this fundraiser with them. Even a small donation can have a tremendous effect for Peak and her family.

Thank you for caring!
