I am in the process of trying to get my braces removed with somewhat unusual circumstances. To start off I have had my braces on for the past 8 years. I had originally gotten them on just before I turned 16 and have had trouble with my old orthodontist ever since. I had trouble making appointments, he took his time with my treatment and has since gone out of business without notify me and possibly others under his care. My parents and insurance at the time had fully paid for my care but it was never finished and unfortunately I'm stuck in a sort of limbo state. I do have insurance through my husband because he is in the Army but it does not cover me to get my braces off because I am over the age of who they cover for orthodontics. On top of all of that, I have had an old injury that has reoccurred. When I was about 12 I had broken a tooth in a bike accident which was fixed but poorly and now that same tooth has died and is partially broken. My insurance will partially cover the surgery for then tooth but I can not have it done until I get my braces off. My husband and I can save up for the tooth repair but can not afford both at this time and we are trying to have this done soon because my husband is being medically discharged within the next few months. My new orthodontist has been more than gracious and has taken $200 off of his braces removal fee and has given me the written quote of $375. I don't know where else to turn now and am hoping someone can help me. Thank you for reading and have a good day.
