We initially found out about our mom’s condition when she had her regular check up last November 2020. For years, she had been going for regular check ups every 3 months, but last year, due to the pandemic, she only managed to do her lab tests last October, 8 months after her previous one in March. She had always been in perfect health so when her x-ray results showed a mass in her lungs, it came to us as a shock. She underwent several more tests and then we finally found out that she has Stage IV, non-small cell lung cancer. Despite her diagnosis, our mom, Emely Manangan, a 60 year old strong-willed woman, was still in high spirits as we talked to her regarding her treatment plan.

Our mother had been a single parent for a significant amount of time. She had been a very supporting mom even with the challenges of single parenthood, so we can only imagine how her condition is beating her up. Our family knows too well how difficult it is to fight this battle as we have already gone through the same situation in 2011, when we lost our father.

Currently, our mom’s treatment plan includes monthly blood works, monthly check-ups and CT-scan every three months. She was also prescribed with an oral targeted therapy drug, Tagrisso, which is a new drug produced by Astrazeneca. This drug is supposed to block the growth and spread of certain cancer cells. Though this drug is not a chemotherapeautic agent, its effectivity against non-small cell lung carcinoma is quite promising.

The doctor advised her to take Tagrisso once every day as her starting treatment. Each pill costs ₱3,310 which would amount to ₱23,200 weekly or ₱92,800 monthly . The effectivity of the drug would then be determined through her regular blood works and CT Scan.

As of the moment, my siblings and I do not have the full financial capability to shoulder all of her medical expenses but as her children, we still want to have her with us for more years, and we will not let her go through her illness without taking a chance. We created this page to take a chance on people who might be willing to help us finance our mother’s medical needs.

Through the years, we have witnessed our mother fight through and win over the toughest battles in her life. Please help us win her battle against cancer. We appreciate the generosity that you will extend to our mom and our family.

Update posted by Domenick Manangan at 04:25 am

Good morning everyone! So, my mom’s CT scan result came in yesterday. It was a nerve-racking experience having to open the envelope and reading the actual results. But praise God! Her results showed amazing changes! Her lung mass shrinked from 3cm last November 2020, to just 0.9cm now! Based on. . . . .
