emel’s rescue fundraiser

My husband and I are living in Turkey. Unfortunately it is not an animal friendly country. Here animal rights are a very new concept. People who torture and kill animals just for the fun of it are not treated like criminals and are punished very lightly, if at all. For people like my husband and I living here is a daily torture. Some times we think about leaving Turkey and settling in a civilized country. Then we think about our animals watching us leave with their sad eyes and wet noses. We cannot leave them. So we stay and try to save the street dogs and cats. It never ends. They keep on coming.

Breeders are not under any government control. They breed whatever they choose to breed and how many. The extra puppies that they can't sell, they just throw out, to fend for themselves. I don't want to get into details and sadden you.

Me, my husband and our late Father have decided to devote our lives to street animals. Keep on.

There are so many of them and they keep on coming. It has become a nearly impossible task to take care them all. We spent a fortune, an amount that some people find hard to believe. If we had more, we would gladly spent more. In 25 years we got health treatments for over 1500 dogs and cats. We found homes for more than 1000 of them. In our garden we have 79 dogs and more then 60 cats. We have many that are old, blind, three legged. Naturally this is not all. We have what we call feeding places. You can find them at the corners of side streets, lonely forest clearings. We put food for animals there. Some times we have to go to these places 4 times a week. We took care of 100 to150 dogs this way. We get them spayed or neutered as much as we can manage but this is never enough.

What is needed is strong laws to control breeders and prohibit breeding whenever necessary. We work hard to give the concept of animal rights a grounding in Turkey. But improvements come slowly and they are never enough.

These innocents can't live the natural life for them and die in pain, some times suffering long weeks before they die .

When they don't have a right to a peaceful death how can they have rights while alive?

We would love to save them all but...

This poor boy we are calling Hercules, was rescued from a small shelter which is in the countryside of Anatolia.

He was surviving in the streets in poor shape and had broken back legs.Somebody informed shelter to help him because he can not move and walk in the street...

Unfortunatly he had a bone surgery in his town but the surgery was not successfull😢😢😢

He had broken bones and very serious sepsis in his body.We arranged his transport to big city İstanbul with the help of an angel named İnci 🙏

I took him to the Vet where they are keeping him and treated him for 15 days. They worked hard to keep him live but he can be disable for the rest of his life.

This rescue cost $350 at the vet and will cost $200 for a pet hotel.

Will you help support bringing him back to health so he can go to the US and he can find his forever family ?"
