Elspeth’s Wheels

Hi everyone!!

Me and Rob Johnson and Jon Forshaw (the driver) are going to be doing The Thee Peaks challenge in 24 hours to try and raise money to help get Elspeth Mobile. We are aiming to do it at the end of July, probably the 26th and 27th which is a Saturday / Sunday. We aim to conquer the 3 highest mountains in Scotland, Ben Nevis, England, Scafell Pike and Wales, Snowdon in 24hours or less.

Eighteen month old Elspeth has type 2 SMA. SMA stands for Spinal Muscular Atrophy. It is a rare, progressive neuromuscular condition and prevents her from standing, crawling or walking. She is fast growing into a chatty, mischievous little girl, but in time she will face her share of challenges as the disease progresses.

Looking to the immediate future Elspeth will greatly benefit from acquiring a wheelchair to enable her to get mobile. The NHS is not able to fund powered wheelchairs for under 5s and the one which will suit her best costs just over £20,000.
