Ellie Volunteering- Home of Hope and Peace Orphanages

   This July I'm travelling to Cambodia to spend 2 weeks volunteering in the Home of Hope and Home of Peace orphanages. I will be both helping the children at these orphanages by organising fun events and activities for them, as well as providing any manual labour needed to make the orphanage as nice and friendly an environment as possible. This could include doing a variety of jobs including painting and building. I'm taking on this trip alone, but hope to make some close friends both in the children i am working with, and also in the other volunteering whom I will be in shared accomodation with and working with at the orphanages. As this experience is unpaid, I will need to cover costs for things like the Projects Abroad programme fee and vaccinations, as well as contributing some of the funds towards the running and upkeep of the orphanages, Hope of Home and Home of Peace. I plan to contribute a significant portion of my own funds to this, as well as applying to a Travel Award offered by my school to offer some funding towards pupils trips. In an attempt to raise money for both my trip and the orphanage I am taking part in the St Albans Half Marathon on the 8th June. This involves a consistent amount of training in order for me to be able to complete the 13 miles on the day, with a decent time. I aim to raise the majority of the funds needed through sponsorship of this Half Marathon and therefore even a small amount will get me one step closer to my goal.  Thank you in advance for any support you can give.
