Eliza’s volunteering in Bali

This October I’m heading to Bali for 5 weeks in which I will be volunteering for 3 weeks. I will be staying in the small village of Tianyar to volunteer with ‘The Mighty Roar’. Despite the beautiful landscapes and fascinating culture, poverty is rife in many regions of Bali. This makes it a popular destination to volunteer and support local projects such as those I will be helping with throughout October. While I am there, I will get the chance to volunteer at the community kindergarten and interact with, care for and educate the children. This will take the burden off the overstretched teachers and provide support where needed. By providing free childcare, parents can go to work, and time is invested in the children to boost their potential. Through our volunteering fees, the kindergarten is fully funded. The money raised goes towards staff wages, teaching equipment, stationery and more! The Mighty Roar now provides a free to attend and safe environment for all children aged between 4 and 6 years old to help provide the first fundamental steps for their futures.

I can't wait to begin my volunteering and help out in the local community. While I am out in Bali, I will be regularly posting photos to keep you all up to date on what I am up to.

I will be fundraising for my trip by challenging myself to hike around Bewl Water Reservoir in Lamberhurst every day for 7 days. This is equivalent to roughly a half marathon each day (12.3 miles to be exact), reaching just over 86 miles by the end of the week. For those of you who know me well, you know I always complain about walking, so if anyone wants to join me on any day to hear me moan, you’re more than welcome. I will be doing this from Monday 30th May – to Sunday 5th of June.
