Hello Everyone, My name is Eli Peske and I am currently a sophomore at Andover High School. I have been invited to attend a LeadAmerica youth leadership conference based on an exemplary academic record, extracurricular activities and community involvement. I am looking for assistance in funding my attendance to this once in a lifetime opportunity. This LeadAmerica sponsored leadership event is the High School Medicine and Healthcare Conference in New York, New York. The session will be held at Columbia University July 18-25, 2013. For the week enrolled I will study various components of medicine including; conducting an outbreak investigation, analyzing information, engaging in debate, resolving conflict and building networks of support as I practice being a medical leader of tomorrow. I will also practice communication skills in the clinical environment; learn how to perform a physical assessment on a standardized patient and participate in the process of developing a differential diagnosis, critically analyze the integration of biomedical research and resulting advancements in medicine and healthcare and exploring current issues in the areas of Health Science and Medical Ethics. There will also be hands on opportunities including how to suture, shadow physicians at work in selected hospitals and clinics, have opportunities to Q&A with physicians and medical students, and so much more! Perhaps the most exciting part of the program is I will learn the basics of diagnosing through symptom review! Through this program I will gain an important head start in preparation for college and the college admission process. My ultimate plan is to attend medical school and this program will give me a more in depth view of the requirements and traits of physicians. LeadAmerica sponsors college-accredited invitational leadership conferences for our world’s most promising and outstanding middle and high school students. Top students from across the United States and the world are invited to participate. It is a life changing experience to help me develop important leadership skills that will assist me in high school, college and beyond.Through briefings and discussions with national and international leaders in the medical field, I will learn firsthand the complexities of decision making. In recent years, students have met with global leaders including the secretary of education, the President of the United States, U.S. senators and representatives, ambassadors, attorneys general, chairman of the joint chiefs, prominent physicians and surgeons, renowned attorneys and law professors and respected business leaders. Through realistic, hands-on simulations, I will also have the opportunity to learn and develop core leadership skills such as team building, public speaking and conflict resolution. My total cost to attend the conference will be $4500. My parents’ contribution plus funds I have already raised equal $350 but I still need another $4150. It is my hope that you will assist me with a donation. I would greatly appreciate any amount you can contribute(no amount is too small). If you want to sponsor me, please donate here on Go Get Funding! I would be glad to speak with you to discuss my goals and thoughts about this conference. Please feel free to call me at 707-738-0268. If you have questions about LeadAmerica, you may call them directly at 866-FYI-LEAD (866-394-5323) or visit www.lead-america.org. Click here for more info on this conference. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Eli Peske
