This summer, on July 14th I shall be heading out to Sri-Lanka for 3 weeks of volunteering!
I shall be working on a Wild Elephant Conservation Project down at the Wasgamuwa National Park. This project is run by The International Volunteer Head Quarters in partnership with The Green Lion, which is the team on the ground.
Together with the local wildlife conservation society, I will be assisting in observing the behavior of wild elephants and carry out research-related tasks. Elephants hold great cultural and religious significance in Sri Lanka, however elephants are viewed as a nuisance by many rural people, as they invade farms looking for crops. The aim of the Wild Elephant Conservation project is to develop effective measures to resolve human-elephant conflict and to ensure wild elephants are no longer being killed by local farmers.
Almost everything is now sorted for my trip with; the programme fee paid; the flights purchased; the visa purchased... but there is an awful lot still to sort out!
It would be amazing to receive donations that will help me on my 3 week venture, and make my volunteering experience, as well as my impact on the community, the best it can be
